What is VeriFactu?
Spain's new invoicing compliance system

VeriFactu is the popular name for Spain's regulation requiring tamper-proof invoicing software with QR codes and AEAT record submission. We explain it in plain language for freelancers living in Spain.

The 4 pillars of VeriFactu

Tamper-proof records

Each invoice is cryptographically chained to the previous one via SHA-256 hash. Records cannot be deleted or altered without trace.

Mandatory QR code

Every invoice must include a QR code allowing the AEAT and your client to verify the record on the tax agency website.

Verifiable billing record

Software generates a structured billing record (not just a PDF) with the fiscal data required by Spanish law.

AEAT submission

Under VeriFactu mode, records are automatically sent to the Spanish Tax Agency when you issue an invoice.

VeriFactu is not the same as mandatory B2B e-invoicing

VeriFactu (Anti-Fraud Law, RD 1007/2023) regulates invoicing software: how your invoices must be generated and stored.

Mandatory B2B electronic invoicing (Ley Crea y Crece) is a separate law requiring digital invoice exchange between businesses. Both apply to freelancers in Spain.
